Chicago, Illinois, known as the heart and soul of the Midwest, is one of the largest cities in the country. If you're planning to hire a reliable team of Chicago movers, there are four seasonal events you might want to attend during Memorial Day weekend.

1. May 25 is the official opening day for city beaches along Lake Michigan, and the Chicago Park District has 26 miles of lakefront land that costs nothing to enjoy. The park district website has a directory of every beach in the city, as well as addresses to help you find your way.

2. The Red Canary, which is a stylish downtown nightclub and restaurant, typically hosts an annual event known as "Patio Pig Out" BBQ buffet on Memorial Day weekend. 3. You can kick off the festivities a little early with the Chicago Memorial Day Parade and Wreath Laying Ceremony, which takes place on May 26 at 11 a.m. at the Eternal Flame on Daley Plaza. The parade will begin at noon and proceed south along State Street. This year's parade will have a special commemoration for the 150th Anniversary of Taps, which was composed during the Civil War.

4. If you'd like to take your family on an adventure, you should take advantage of the 2012 Bike the Drive, which begins on May 27 along Lake Shore Drive. Your family can ride for over 30 scenic miles starting at 5:30 a.m. There will even be rest stops along the way, giving your family members the option of grabbing a snack or drink before continuing the ride.

5. Take Public Transportation. If a snowstorm is supposed to hit between 3 pm – 6 pm on a weekday, be smart and don’t try to travel in your car – take public transportation.
