U.S. Postal Service
Make it a point to fill out a change of residence form at the nearest United States Postal Service or through the USPS website. This will ensure that any letters or packages sent to your former home will be rerouted to the proper address.
Housing and Economic Development
Each state has its own Housing and Economic Development department (for example, here's Massachusetts' site), which is individually designed to provide a wide variety of local needs - such as government-funded incentive programs to get a small business started, community development grants and home energy assistance programs.
DMV or RMV
It's safe to say that driving will be a priority both before and after the unpacking process. Although you'll have some time to get settled before you have to legally do so (the timeframe varies from state to state), you’ll need to change your driver’s license, receive new license plates and replace your vehicle’s registration. This can all be handled at the state Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) or the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV).
