After your Colorado Springs moving company has pulled out of the driveway, you might be ready to hit the town. If you don’t have the budget for an extravagant day out, you might want to look into these free things you can do with your family.
Garden of The Gods Visitor and Nature Center: A registered National Natural Landmark, this park features 300-foot sandstone rock formations and some of the most picturesque views of the area. Stop by the park’s world-class Visitor and Nature Center to learn about the sandstone rocks and how they were formed. Stop by the café for a quick bite to eat and be sure to eat on the terrace for a post-card like view of Pikes Peak and the gardens.
Waldo Canyon: This hiking area is located in the front range of the Pikes Peak area. Take a highly popular route that starts just a few minutes from downtown Colorado Springs. The hike is a total of 7 miles and should take about 4 hours to complete. Here’s a map if you’re ready to hit the trail: http://www.trails.com/topo.aspx?trailid=HGR114-035
U.S. Olympic Training Center: Hosting more than 140,000 visitors each year, this facility educates visitors about the U.S. Olympic Committee, U.S. Olympic Training Centers and the Olympic Movement. The center features art exhibits, kiosks about all American Olympic athletes, a 225-seat auditorium and an eating facility.
