Tips to Get your Children Onboard with Moving

by Admin 10. September 2012 08:50

When you want to move and you have children, it can be hard to transplant them to their new home. Sometimes it takes extra special care and preparation. Here are a few tips for getting your little ones onboard for cross country moving.

Hold a Meeting

TLC recommends breaking the news to your children by holding a family meeting. You may want to order some pizza and create a jovial atmosphere before telling them about the big life changes ahead. Explain the reasons why you're moving and try to give it a positive spin, such as they will have lots of new friends and different places to play.

Look Up Local Activties

Do some research on your new hometown and show your children some of the great recreational opportunities they'll have, like afterschool programs, sports leagues and nearby parks.

Prepare to Say Goodbye

Saying goodbye to friends can be a difficult task, so TLC recommends having a "See You Soon" party, where all your little one's friends and nearby family can attend. Give them a disposable camera to take pictures of everyone or perhaps have a guestbook that people can sign.
